This is the most symbolic piece in the forest. The giraffe sculpture features a striking multicolored surface in like yellows and reds. Due to its large size, climbing is not allowed, but it makes for fantastic photos.

By giving the giraffe a colorful design, the artwork reflects the park’s sense of freedom, inclusiveness, and openness — a place where everyone is welcome. Its vibrant appearance invites visitors to feel the creativity and accessibility that define this unique public space.

Nyampye: A Cat Legend and Local Icon

Nakamurabashi has a heartwarming and slightly mysterious legend involving a cat named Nyampye.

Long ago, a man was washing daikon radishes in the river when he saw a drowning cat drifting downstream. He reached out with a daikon and rescued the feline, naming it "Nyampye." The man took great care of Nyampye, but one day, the cat disappeared without a trace.

Years later, after the man had injured his leg and was struggling with daily life, he found a gold coin (koban) in front of his shed. Paw prints nearby led him to believe Nyampye had returned to repay the favor.

To commemorate this story, a Nyampye monument now stands in front of Nakamurabashi Station’s shopping street. As you stroll through this local neighborhood, keep an eye out for Nyampye and imagine the legend — it adds a magical layer to the experience.
