Known as a national anime, Sazae-san is a beloved Japanese animated series created by Machiko Hasegawa, with its serialization beginning in 1946. Centered around the main character, Sazae-san, the show humorously depicts the everyday life of her family. Loved by the nation for over 50 years, this anime is closely associated with Sakurashinmachi.

1) Machiko Hasegawa Memorial and Art Museum
About a 6-minute walk south from Sakurashinmachi Station, you will find the Machiko Hasegawa Memorial and Art Museum, dedicated to the creator of Sazae-san.
The Machiko Hasegawa Memorial showcases the life and works of the manga artist Machiko Hasegawa. Opened in 2020, the museum offers immersive exhibits where visitors can experience the world of Sazae-san and other representative works. The facility also features a garden modeled after the weeping cherry trees that Hasegawa loved, providing beautiful seasonal scenery. There is a café space and a shop selling related merchandise, creating a relaxing environment for visitors.
The Machiko Hasegawa Art Museum, located in Sakurashinmachi, Setagaya, Tokyo, exhibits Hasegawa’s works as well as an art collection from her sister. Established in 1985, after Hasegawa’s passing in 1992, her sister Mariko continued to operate the museum as its director. The collection includes Japanese paintings, Western-style paintings, crafts, and sculptures, which are displayed during several special exhibitions each year. Since 2020, the Machiko Hasegawa Memorial has also been used as a space to display original manga works and materials related to Hasegawa’s creations.

Just about a 30-second walk west from the south exit of Sakurashinmachi Station, you’ll find “Sazae-san Street,” which leads to the Machiko Hasegawa Memorial. This street is adorned with illustrations of Sazae-san everywhere, making it a delightful place to stroll and enjoy.
3)Sakura Jingu
